The Patriot League, a Division-I NCAA athletic league with its headquarters in Center Valley, PA, wanted to start a League-wide web streaming initiative for the sports of men and women’s basketball as well as select Championships.  After previously working with Applied Video Technology (AVT) to purchase a NewTek TriCaster and three professional cameras for all eight schools in the league, they again looked to AVT in Malvern, PA to help them with this project.

Starting originally with the Tricaster100, the Patriot League recently upgraded each of the League schools to Tricaster Studio to give them more flexibility for streaming through their league website: The Patriot League All-Access, which is produced through the use of the NewTek Tricaster. The League started streaming basketball games in January 2007 with CBS Interactive and averages more than 120 webcasts per academic year.   With the NewTek TriCaster Studio the schools now have the ability to switch six cameras and include real-time key generation, live titling, audio mixing, live streaming and virtual sets.   TriCaster gives schools the ability to create, live network style television through one simple-to-use portable system.

Due to the volume of web streaming programming, AVT has worked individually with several of the Patriot League schools to add additional TriCasters to school’s game day production facilities.  Patriot League schools primarily use the Tricaster for streaming athletic events, but also use it for other web streaming projects through their own individual school websites. At some schools, students produce the webcasts which provides them with some outstanding skills for future work.

According to Patriot League Associate Executive Director, Richard Wanninger, After researching several different options on the market, the TriCaster from NewTek was the easy choice after seeing a demo from AVT and receiving feedback from other NewTek customers.  We work with AVT based on their close proximity to our league offices and their continued outstanding customer service to the Patriot League and ability to help resolve any questions or technical issues the League or the League schools might face.”
