Niagara University Athletics
Student-Run Productions on ESPN
Niagara University (NU) needed to solidify their academic and athletic experience offered to students and fans of the Division I institution located in Niagara University, New York. With the addition of ESPN on air and streamed broadcasts this season, the school decided it was time to update their equipment for broadcasts to allow students to gain practical experience in game day operations while at the same time work with ESPN to produce live event broadcasts for multiple sports.
Working in conjunction with Daktronics, AVT was contracted to provide a TV Studio upgrade and sports video production facility in the Dunleavy Hall Control room. Operators in the control room are able to handle all live production controls for the basketball, volleyball and ice arenas as well as new Daktronics LED video boards. AVT also provided portable systems designed to be transported between locations. The facility now meets ESPN broadcast standards and provides students with an opportunity to work in a production environment similar to what they will encounter in their professional careers. All of NU’s home volleyball games and all men’s and women’s basketball games will air on ESPN networks via NU student operations.
